How to Choose the Right Type of Flooring for Your Brand-New Home

Posted on: 4 May 2017

When you are planning to build your new home, you have to make so many decisions. Once you've determined the overall design, you need to pick all of the materials. What kind of timber will you want to use for the doors, and will you choose granite for your kitchen countertops? One of the biggest questions involves the flooring. What do you need to consider when it comes to the various types available?

Linoleum On A Budget

If budget is a consideration, then you might like to consider linoleum for some of the more utilitarian areas. For example, the kitchen and bathroom are typical choices, as linoleum is resistant to water. This product is cut from a roll, which you will obtain from the factory and is usually priced according to the square metre. Just remember, however, that linoleum can damage fairly easily, and you have to replace the entire room if this happens.

Timber

Timber is also an option for the flooring and you can choose from a variety of different styles here. It's quite easy to clean and lasts a long time. You can choose from a variety of different patterns, including parquet. This type of flooring does have to be maintained periodically, however, especially where there is a lot of traffic such as an entry or hallway. You will need to sand it to make sure that the appearance is kept up.

Laminate Allrounder

If you're looking for an all-round option that has many of the good characteristics of the others, consider laminate. These synthetic products resemble wood and are available in either planks or tiles. They are resistant to water and fairly easy to clean, although you might not like to choose laminate in small, enclosed areas with a lot of moisture present, such as a bathroom. If any pieces do happen to become damaged, they are quite easy to replace, as you can purchase them in sections. Also, because a variety of different patterns are available, you should be able to match the look with the rest of your home decor.

Going About This The Right Way

You'll always want to ensure that you get the best end result, to properly match the look and feel of your home and take full advantage of the investment you're making. This is why it's a good idea to get professional help every time, during the design and installation phases.
